Ruffle originates as a welcoming seat with generous proportions, where gentle volumes and formal precision coexist in perfect balance. The wide, one-piece seat offers exceptional, effortless comfort, while the slightly sloping trapezoidal backrest introduces a subtle dynamism that supports the body with graceful ease.
Ruffle expresses a free and informal feel: a modular system designed to interpret contemporary lifestyle with originality and authenticity. Its relaxed softness translates into an unforced sense of ease, inviting relaxation and conviviality.
Its identity is shaped by a pattern of paired bands, padded like soft cushions, that wrap around the structure, following its contours to create the effect of an endless quilt. Precisely cut and stitched, they follow the outline with fluidity, evoking a feeling of wellbeing perceivable at first glance.
Craftsmanship becomes a distinctive graphic element: longitudinal stitches run evenly across the backrest and seat, defining orderly vertical bands that give the upholstery character, introducing a measured yet recognisable visual design language to any space. The perimeter profile outlines the silhouette, while the 45° corner joints showcase a sophisticated artisanal approach and meticulous attention to detail. The back maintains the same compositional harmony, enabling the piece to be positioned at the center of the room with equal visual strength, becoming the protagonist of the environment.
In the offset version, the backrest extends sideways to house open wood compartments with softly rounded corners and removable sculpted padded tops, or rectangular and square side tables, elements that shape a fluid domestic landscape, harmonising linear modules with enveloping curves.
Resting on polished brushed metal feet, Ruffle conveys an elegant solidity and a strong horizontal presence, gracefully accompanying the daily rituals of contemporary living.

GamFratesi
GamFratesi’s design takes its creative drive from a fusion of tradition and renewal and in an experimental approach to their chosen materials and techniques. With their dual traditional background, Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi draw on the classic Danish furniture and craft tradition as well as the classic Italian intellectual and conceptual approach. Understanding a tradition and addressing it actively in the workshop makes it possible to expand on it. From this cross-cultural substrate they create furniture that respectfully reflects tradition while also featuring unique embedded stories, symbols and associations, often expressed in a minimalist idiom. GamFratesi aim to create furniture that illustrates the process and the techniques that created it, and which reflect a persistent exploration of the diverse border zone between harmony and disharmony.
Gamfratesi studio was founded in 2006 by danish architect Stine Gam and italian architect Enrico Fratesi. the studio is based in Copenhagen.
