Drawing inspiration from architectural history, the New Works Atlas Coffee Table pays homage to the mythical Titan tasked with supporting the heavens. Its solid legs provide sturdy support for the expansive tabletop, creating a striking contrast that defines its distinctive presence and brutalist aesthetic. Designed by John Astbury, Atlas incorporates elements reminiscent of porticoes and colonnades while primarily focusing on the archetypal post-and-lintel construction. Through a combination of simple geometry, including circles and squares, the Atlas Coffee Table achieves a harmonious balance of character and composition.

John Astbury
John Astbury’s studio was founded in 2014 and is based in Stockholm, Sweden. After previously studying anthropology in England, John Astbury completed studies in design at Konstfack, college of Arts, and Crafts in 2011. Building from archetypes, his work reduces the object to its fundamentals, exposing material, structure and form. A language of absolute simplicity while making visible the dialogues and symbols that surround the object.
