The Coupe Stool and Barstool began as a naïve sketch: a single vertical line met by three horizontals, inspired by the reduced silhouettes of classic cocktail glasses and champagne coupes. While the forms are unapologetically simple, Coupe maintains a distinct character. Its identity is defined by a strong materiality and clarity of form that gives the design a significant presence in any room. Despite the solid feel and volume, the precise proportions and balanced geometry achieve a lightness of touch, making the overall aesthetic one of a balanced, classic silhouette.

John Astbury
John Astbury’s studio was founded in 2014 and is based in Stockholm, Sweden. After previously studying anthropology in England, John Astbury completed studies in design at Konstfack, college of Arts, and Crafts in 2011. Building from archetypes, his work reduces the object to its fundamentals, exposing material, structure and form. A language of absolute simplicity while making visible the dialogues and symbols that surround the object.
